The Vatican Museums: Its History, Development and Future

 @ Roma - Galleria Prencipe

This treasure trove of art, studded with gems from the Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque and Neo-classical eras, never fails to delight visitors. The only challenge is how to navigate the fleeting two hour time allotment. These lessons break down the famous collection, using its priceless works to tell the intertwining stories of a famous family of extraordinary patrons, the development of new media in the art world, revolutions in artistic styles and of course the rise of Italy’s sculpting superstar, Bernini. The course presents the truly “catholic” in the sense of universal taste of Cardinal Borghese, who gave his powerful patronage to everyone, from the conservative classists Francesco Albani, to Lavina Fontana to the troubled yet brilliant, Caravaggio.
